Day 2 – A 8/30/10
· Title your autobiography and why. (Collected syllabus and survey AND taped bookmarks into the front cover of books) Discuss. (5-7)
· Discuss annotation and the blue books – what is it? Why is it important? Examine the coding bookmarks and “Digging” annotated example. (5)
· Practice annotation with “The Dead Boy at Your Window”. First paragraph together as a class, the rest independently. Answer the three questions at the end when finished. (25)
· Coding discussion chart – students will go around the room, finding different student codes and responding to them. (15)
· Discuss as a whole group – the story, and what was annotated/why. (5-10)
· Take these skills and transfer them into the book – Greek society!
· What do you know about Greek myths/society/Greece in general already?
· First two pages of book together (pg. 1 and 2). Discuss what is important/why. Underline/annotate as we go along. (10)
· Count off by 3. Each number will be responsible for reading and understanding one section of society background (People and society, culture, arts and humanities). (10)
· Share with the other two numbers what you were responsible for reporting out – they should annotate in their books what seemed to you the most important, interesting, etc. (Quiz Wednesday)

Day 2 – B 8/31/10
- Bellwork: Review annotation – what is it again? “Digging” example on screen. Why is this a good, albeit intense, way to use annotation? How could this help you in class? Discuss. (7)
- Get out “Dead Boy” story. Text coding discussion activity around the room. (15)
- Discuss text codes and 3 questions at the end. (5-10)
- First 2 pages of book together; discuss/annotate. (5-7)
- Everyone assigned a different section of Greek background. Annotate silently. (7-10)
- Find the 2 other numbers and report out while the listeners annotate. (Quiz Thursday)
Day 3 A - 9/1/10
· Bellwork: One interesting thing you found about your section of Greek society
· Review Greek culture/society as a class – what was interesting, important
· Culture group quiz – a 1, 2 and 3 group together with notes. Correct in class.
· What is a myth? Discuss.
· Greek creation myth as a class. Discuss. Keep track of family tree.
Day 3 B - 9/2/10
· Bellwork: One interesting thing you found about your section of Greek society
· Collect venn diagrams
· Discuss bellwork
· Review Greek culture/society as a class – what was interesting, important
· Culture group quiz – a 1, 2 and 3 group together with notes. Correct in class.
· Review Greek creation myth and venn diagrams – make an illustrated drawing depicting creation. (20)
· Pass out Greek god family tree. Discuss who we know. (5)

Day 4 A – 9/3/10
· Bellwork: Create drawing of creation myth to review. (Check off venn diagram)
· Review venn diagram
· Greek god family tree – discuss who we know.
· Understanding the Olympian gods: YouTube “Olympian Gods of Ancient Greek Mythology”. Take guided notes and discuss.
· Read Echo and Narcissus (Understand creation stories) with partners, answering questions on separate sheet of paper.
